The Introduction of Tiered Fastpasses Under the New Fastpass + System?

Multiple sources are reporting that Disney is changing fastpass + starting today for Epcot only (at this point). This is not been confirmed by Disney's IT people, but our agents at Pixie have gone into their reservations and found it to be true.  So you'll be able to chose ONE fastpass from the following:

  • Character Spot
  • IllumiNations
  • Maelstrom
  • Soarin
  • Test Track
And then two fastpasses from the rest:

  • Captain EO
  • Journey into Imagination
  • Living with the Land
  • Mission: SPACE
  • Seas with Nemo and Friends
  • Spaceship Earth
  • Turtle Talk with Crush
We've been hearing for a while, that this system will work under a "tiered" system where you can't choose all "e ticket" attractions. We've also heard that this in effect during the Christmas holidays. No doubt, this is due to overuse of the system, which has led to many off site guests being unable to get fastpasses at all for major attractions.
As always, this is a very fluid situation and all of this may just be conjecture at this point, so please take it with a grain of salt until it's announced by Disney. UPDATE: In the hour since I wrote this, I've had multiple readers verify that this is true. Thank you for your help.

This is per day?

So what
Is the benefit to staying on site? You pay more to stay in Disney and have less fast passes? We are going back to long lines again?

I just checked mine for my Dec. 9 visit to epcot and nothing changed...I have test track, turtle crush and character spot...so two from the first group and one from the second...

At EPCOT last week ..... got FP's for Soarin' at 9:15; return time was 5:15. Wait time for stand-by grew exponentially through the day and was up to 120 minutes at its peak. Test Track not much better. As an off-site guest, I can verify that it was nearly impossible to utilize FP's as we always had in previous visits. Felt as though Disney's goal was to force people to stay at their resorts just for the privilege of FP.

Wish we could get our FB+ reservations to work :/

I sure hope that all of this testing yields an amazing system because I'm getting pretty worried about it.

I can't believe that we are limited to 3 FPs on the current incarnation of the FP+... Magic Kingdom, at the very least, should cap out higher than 3, I would hope it would be at least 5. We just got back from our trip and went to MK three times, and each visit we used at least 6 FPs per day. Feeling somewhat penalized for staying on resort...

Well we spent 10 days in October....3 fast passes a day...was the limit then and I see this as not too bad...! so instead of picking more than 2 or 3 out of the top tiers you are limited to 1...no biggie...you were limited to 3 FP before anyways.....making in fair for everyone.....

I feel like this is needed because the design of the system was so poorly conceived. That said, I think it was the plan all along. They're trying to spread the crowds (while making money through Magic Bands and tracking of people) but really are doing the exact opposite. What a mess.

I just booked for christmas week and my selections were on a tier basis.

I work for the Fastpass+ team and the system is working. It is out as tiered in DHS and Epcot right now. There have been no plans passed down for the tiering to spread to MK but it is always an option. The reason we set it for 3 is although hundreds of legacy fastpass distributed, the average redeemed was 1.5. Now as times progress it might be changed but not anytime in the future. Just with the resort guest going to the new system we have seen standby lines decrease by 10%. The system is working we are just still getting the kinks out of programming and its not only for resort guest they are just our testing pool right now. We will be expanding to AP's soon and shortly after everyone will be on the FP+ system and legacy will be pulled.

Bruce Harvey, Can you tell me if the IllumiNations spot is a terrific viewing spot or just a place near the fence?
