Fastpass - XPass Testing Begins May 1, 2012.

We've got news from our sources inside the Magic Kingdom. We won't post the documents because we don't want to get anyone into trouble, but this confirms the rumors you've heard elsewhere and points towards what we have heard about Disney's Xpass system.

Beginning May 1 through May 15, Walt Disney World is going to conduct a test of Disney's Fastpass service at the Magic Kingdom.  During the 2 week test guests will be selected to participate prior to their arrival. To us, when we looked at the document, it sounds like resort guests are going to be able to make a Fastpass itinerary based on their preferences which includes attractions and timeframes.  Disney will confirm via email.

You will be given a Fastpass card for use at select attractions.  You can review your itineray by looking at your email, visiting City Hall, or by going to a fastpass kiosk located at the Jungle Cruise, Splash Mountain, Mickey's Philharmagic, and Stitch's Great Escape. We assume these are the new touchscreen kiosks that have been debuting in the last few weeks.

Disney's Fastpass Card can only be used on the date, time and attraction communicated to the guest via the original email.

We go in September, and I really hope they are doing this then. Any idea if they will be? We are taking a 4 year old, so sprinting around to get fast passes isn't likely to happen for us! I'd love to be able to pre-schedule rides. That would be a huge relief!

Are they tiered in any way to the resort you are staying at? For instance, deluxe guests having the most FastPass options with value guests having the least?

This sounds interesting! We will be there this weekend, maybe we'll get to be one of the testers :)

Just curious -- are there any limits on the number of X-pass "Fastpasses" a person can book and/or use? One every two hours? A certain number per day? Only within a particular park, etc.? Without such limits, I fear this would be as subject to abuse as the ADR system, before certain restrictions were put in place to limit multiple ADRs for the same time...

I can only hope that this fails!! I have enough problems scheduling dining reservations on vacation and now they throw in Fast Passes.

Although this sounds interesting, I would hate to be bound by an ironclad itinerary. That said, during the summer, when the attendance is much higher, it might be worth it to follow a somewhat rigid schedule in order to avoid disappointments.

No no no no no! I hope this crashes and burns. I'm already up at 5am 180 days out to book dining and I still couldn't get Ohana. If I had to predetermine what fast passes I wanted to, I would go insane and planning would not be as fun. This also would really suck for first timers who don't go through Disney travel. I think this would be a huge turn off for people who aren't 100% Disney fans.

@Cristabel - it looks like the testing is giving people 4 attractions they can visit over the course of a 4-6 hour period.

Splash 10-11, JC 11-12, HM 1-2 ,etc.

If it works as hoped, it could mean that you do get to ride a lot more in a day than before.
