From the Rumor Mill: Possible Delays For Test Track Refurbishment

Will it close for refurbishment next month as scheduled?
I don't normally like to talk about Disney rumors, because it seems a lot of people never see the word "rumor" and take what is written as fact. However, this rumor is quite interesting, and I felt important enough to share as it concerns the scheduled refurbishment of Test Track over at Epcot.

You may recall that several months back, it was being reported on Disney message boards and Disney blogs (including this one) that Test Track would close in the spring for a months long refurbishment. Disney PR even provided a little blurb about upcoming changes and what guests could expect when the ride re-opened, and the story was covered in the Orlando media market also. Tentative refurbishment dates of April 15-September 21st were also set.

The issue, as first reported by our good friends at Mice Chat, is that we are days away from April and no one in the parks seems to know anything about the project. Cast members working the attraction have not been told anything about a scheduled refurbishment, which is unusual, since you have to think that those cast members would be relocated to other attractions/other parks temporarily while the ride was being worked on.  Furthermore, calls to Disney, GM and Chevrolet by Mice Chat concerning this matter have gone unanswered, and the January 6th press release from the media website has been pulled as well.

While it is still possible that the refurbishment will begin next month as first reported, all of these signs taken together point to either a delay of, or cancellation of the refurbishment all together. Personally, I hope that is not the case. While I hate to see any attraction go down for an extended period of time (especially in Epcot, which is lacking in E-Ticket rides), Test Track is sorely in need of work. I can only hope that if the refurbishment doesn't start next month, that it is only temporarily delayed, perhaps until after the summer season, and not cancelled.

So, short of calling Disney, has anyone heard if they did shut the test track down this month or is it still operational? 45 days!
