Holy cow, did they just let the cat out of the bag? Did I just use a sentence with not one but TWO colloquial references to animals? Yes. On both counts.
If you follow Disney discounts, you know that the last two major discounts that Disney announced were tweeted oh-so-quietly by Touring Plans (specifically, by Len Testa, co-author of the Unofficial Guide and all around Disney guru) a few days before the discount came out (both on Friday, I believe) and the discounts were released the following Tuesday. Pretty much everyone in the Disney online community picked up the same rumor and within six hours, it was plastered all over the place. But Touring Plans is where it started.
Now, what was interesting about these rumors is that they were very specific and they mentioned something that Disney didn't normally do at the time, which is to have different levels of discounts for deluxe resorts. In one instance, for example, Animal Kingdom Lodge and The Grand Floridian were discounted only 25% off, the same as the value resorts. That kind of really detailed information can only come from "the inside."
The official word out of Disney is always that they don't know when discounts are coming out until the day they're offered, but I've seen too many posts on Disney message boards from people who've talked to cast members who've said things like "wait until next week" or "watch on Friday morning" and had that turn out to true, so I'm not sure I believe that the CMs answering the phones at central reservations don't know when something is coming out, even if they don't know all the details. But Touring Plans seems to have even more information than that. Who knows where they get it from? They just seem to be consistently right.
The question is still when, of course, and no one knows that, or if they do they aren't telling yet. I would expect something days before May 10th, hopefully before the end of this month. I'm not even going to speculate (okay, I will try to refrain from speculating) but I will keep my eyes open and post the news as soon as it comes out. I'm really hoping for something that will cover us for our December trip. I get the free dining pins, but the latest one only covered until mid-August. I heard rumors of some people were getting ones that cover fall, but I never got confirmation.
Sarah, they're definitely out there. If I had to bet, I would venture to say that this discount will not cover summer, but fall. I don't know if they'll have it reach into December yet. We usually get the UK offer a few weeks after they get it over there and they got FD into mid-November. I'm watching every day, so I'll post anything new that comes up.
